  1. Acorn have released a new set of the four printer drivers,
  2. !PrinterPS(v.2.44), !PrinterLJ(v.2.44), !PrinterDM(v.2.46) and
  3. !PrinterIx(v.2.46), below are detailed some of the changes that have been
  4. made to this release of the drivers:

  6. Release 2 of Acorn's printer drivers are enhanced versions of the original
  7. release, so they should be used in a similar manner to the original
  8. versions. Printing files graphically (e.g. from !Draw and !DTP) occurs in
  9. the same way as under the original release of the printer drivers. Release 2
  10. of the printer drivers mainly improves the text printing facilities, this is
  11. because it provides a special "fancy" text file format which allows
  12. underlining, subscript, superscript, bold, light and so on. The printer
  13. driver also lets you put a title on each page and/or number the lines, when
  14. printing "fancy" text. As standard a simple text file such as this one will
  15. comes out as "fancy" text, but the special features are turned off and so
  16. you get the same output as under the original printer drivers.

  18. There is a new option on the printer drivers in additions to Serial,
  19. Parallel, Econet and File. This is for NFS printing, for use with the TCP/IP
  20. suite available from Acorn. For more details about the options read your
  21. TCP/IP manual.

  23. The drivers now support multiple file printing. Printing can be paused and
  24. aborted rom the driver.

  26. 1st Word Plus files can be printed as 'fancy' text. This means that you do
  27. not have to have 1st Word Plus loaded to print its files.

  29. The number of Bulletin Boards supporting the Archimedes is now comfortably
  30. into double figures. While that may not sound many, for a long time there
  31. were just four!

  33. We are once again getting a large number of enquiries regarding
  34. configuration problems with various machines. We find that in the
  35. vast majority of these cases the batteries which keep the CMOS powered while
  36. the computer is off are completely flat. Please remember that the batteries
  37. should be changed every 12 months to be totally safe. The cost of the
  38. replacement battery unit for the Master 128 is £4.60 from any Acorn dealer.
  39. The fitting of the replacement battery unit is extremely easy and can be
  40. performed by experienced users. The Acorn product code for this item is
  41. ADT16,Acorn do not recommend the use of any other replacement battery unit.
  42. The Archimedes range of machines requires two, leak proof, size AA
  43. replacement batteries. The A3000 is fitted with a rechargable battery and
  44. therefore does not need replacing.
